Privacy Policy for Amies

Last updated: March 14, 2025

Introduction

Welcome to Amies! This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and handle your information when you use our mobile application.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account and complete our onboarding process, we collect:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Profession
  • Location
  • Profile picture
  • Self-description
  • Personal interests
  • Friendship preferences
  • Account creation date

Identity Verification Documents

During onboarding, we require the following to verify your identity, age (18+), and gender:

  • A photo of a government-issued ID (passport or national ID card)
  • A live selfie taken with your device's camera

These documents are stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket and are only accessible to our verification team. Once your identity has been verified, all uploaded documents are permanently deleted. See the "Identity Verification" section below for more details.

Device Permissions

Our app requires access to:

  • Photo Library (to upload profile pictures and identity documents)
  • Camera (to take a live selfie for identity verification)
  • These permissions are only requested when you explicitly perform the corresponding action

Technical Information

We automatically collect:

  • Device information (model, operating system)
  • App usage data
  • Error logs
  • Performance data

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your user profile
  • Provide our matching services
  • Improve user experience
  • Send important updates about our service
  • Protect the security of our users
  • Comply with legal obligations

Identity Verification

Amies is a women-only friendship platform. To ensure the safety of our community, we verify that all users are at least 18 years old and female. Here is how the process works:

  • You upload a photo of a government-issued ID and take a live selfie during onboarding
  • Your documents are stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket hosted on Supabase (Frankfurt, EU)
  • A member of our team manually reviews the documents to confirm your age and identity
  • Once verified, your ID photo and selfie are permanently deleted from our servers
  • If your verification is rejected, you will be notified and may resubmit

We do not use automated facial recognition or biometric processing. The review is performed by a human team member solely to confirm that the ID matches the selfie and that the age and gender requirements are met.

Data Storage and Security

  • Your data is stored securely using industry-standard encryption
  • We use Supabase for our database and storage services, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany (EU)
  • We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data
  • We retain your data only as necessary or until you request deletion

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Update or correct your information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Opt-out of non-essential communications
  • Request a copy of your data

Age Restrictions

Our service is not intended for users under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 years of age.

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
